Baby Tooth Extraction

Baby teeth start to come through from the 6th month and are complete at around 3 years of age. From the age of 6 they start to be replaced by permanent teeth. In children, decay progresses faster and is more common than in adults. Because the enamel of baby teeth has a higher organic content than in adults, its structure is weaker. Children are anxious on their first visit to the dentist and may have difficulty during treatment. If decayed teeth in children are not treated and treatment is left too late, the teeth may have to be extracted. When teeth have to be extracted early, problems such as disturbed jaw development and crowding can appear once the permanent teeth come through. After a baby tooth has had to be extracted, preventive treatments must be applied so that the child's jaw develops correctly.

Pulpotomy

Pulpotomy is the treatment used when decay in a baby tooth has progressed a long way. The tissue and nerve affected by decay are removed, with the aim of keeping the tooth alive and functioning. After pulpotomy, the treatment is completed with a filling or a crown.
